Safe Routes to School coming to Alma!

November 15, 2021, by Becca Kurie

Safe Routes to School

Traducción al español de la carta Rutas seguras a la escuela

November 15, 2021

Dear Alma families,

I am pleased to inform you that Alma del Mar Charter School has partnered with the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program to provide you with a valuable survey tool to gather data on how our students travel to and from school. The results of this survey will help plan safe transportation options for all students, evaluate current SRTS efforts, identify areas for improvement, and assist this community in an effort to reduce traffic congestion during arrival and dismissal times.

This brief survey should take no longer than three minutes to complete and is available in nine different languages. It is important to note that the SRTS Survey does not collect any personal or identifiable data as the survey does not call for any names to be provided and gathers approximate home addresses using nearby streets. Additionally, schools that obtain a response rate of 50% or higher can receive a gift pack (pedometers, bike lights, and reflective backpacks, or other similar items) valued at over $250!

The information you provide will help determine:

  • The average distance students travel to school
  • How students are getting to and from school
  • The estimated annual Greenhouse Gas emissions released specifically related to the number of students being driven to school

Please visit the SRTS Survey webpage at https://masaferoutessurvey.org/ to complete the survey for your school (no login necessary) and select “New Bedford” for the district, then your scholar’s campus. Douglass Campus families should base their responses on what they plan to do once the new school building opens at 767 Church Street in New Bedford.

You may also contact our SRTS Outreach Coordinator, Rachel McCaffery, at 857-383-3893, or by email at Rachel.McCaffery@aecom.com with any additional questions or concerns that you may have.

Sincerely,

Becca Kurie, Director of Development
