A friend to the Alma community created a special Alma MAD LIB for our first day of school! This is a “JUST FOR FUN” activity that is optional. Find the first part of the activity here.
DIRECTIONS (Continued):
- Then take the words from your list and fill out the blanks in the story. You’ll see that in small subscript are the descriptions.
- Read your story aloud with all your words filled in. Don’t read the small words inside the paragraphs. The paragraphs are just to help you fill in your word list.) Is it silly? Does it make sense?

I jumped out of bed as soon as the alarm clock sounded! “It’s the first day of school!” came (who usually wakes you up) ______________________ voice from the hallway.
“YAWN!” was the reply from the bed next to me. My little (NOUN1) _______________________was still under the covers.
After a hearty breakfast of (NOUN2)____________________ and (NOUN3)______________________, I brushed my (NOUN4)_____________________, got dressed in the Alma uniform of a (COLOR1)___________________ shirt and (ADJECTIVE)___________________ pants with the obligatory (COLOR2)___________________ shoes and bounded toward the front door.
“(WHO USUALLY WAKES YOU UP)___________________! Where is my backpack? And where is my (OBJECT1)___________________? I need to show everyone how cool it is!”’
“(YOUR NAME)___________________, we are in the living room. We are reading for your first day of school in here. Classes are remote for all scholars, remember?
“Oh yeah!” I said. “Then why am I wearing this (NOUN5)___________________?”
I walked to the living room and saw (PERSON1)___________________ and (PERSON2)___________________ sitting on the couch with the Alma computers on their lap and ready to go. I sat in between them and opened my computer. My first subject was (FAVORITE SCHOOL SUBJECT)___________________! Yay!
I got a huge surprise. My (SCHOOL SUBJECT1)___________________ teacher was (FAMOUS PERSON1)___________________! Can you believe it? During lunch I had a video lunch conference with him/her. I ate (FOOD YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRY)___________________. (FAMOUSPERSON2)___________________ eats with his/her mouth open. Yuck.
During (SCHOOL SUBJECT2)___________________ we learned all about (NOUN6).___________________. I didn’t think it made any sense, but I haven’t been at school since March, so maybe I just need to keep (VERB ending in -ING)___________________.
During art class we learned fun facts from Ms. Dooher and Ms. Frazer Rego about artists. They told us that the Mona Lisa was actually painted by (FAMOUS PERSON3)___________________ and all of Pablo Picasso’s paintings were actually done by (FAMOUS PERSON4)___________________. During P.E. Mr. Mattzdorff and Ms. Brown told us to go outside and run (NUMBER DISTANCE/LENGTH)___________________ in only (NUMBER UNIT OF TIME)___________________. I was tired, but I did it! Then we came back inside and finished the day with (SCHOOL SUBJECT3)___________________.
Mr. Gardner also talked to us about how different the school year might feel, but I got distracted halfway through his speech because he was wearing a (OBJECT2)___________________ on his (BODY PART)___________________. The last part of his speech was fun because he told us that we were going to all read (BOOK TITLE)___________________ together this week and sing (FAVORITE SONG)___________________ together during the morning Zoom call.(GRADE YOU ARE IN) ___________________is going to be fun this year I think! Even if we aren’t all together in the school building at first, we’ll still get to talk on our Zoom calls. But I won’t have lunch with (FAMOUS PERSON1)___________________ again unless he/she learns to chew with his/her mouth closed!
