Meet Ms. Tanco

Waikiria Tanco

Waikiria Tanco is an elementary school fellow at Alma’s Frederick Douglass Campus.

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I wanted to expand my horizons and gain experience working in a school setting after working in daycare.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to be able to be the person the kids can come to with trust if they having problems at home or at school so I can help them out. I also want to help them believe in themselves that they can do better then they think they can.

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
Ms. B, my social studies teacher in middle school. I was going through a lot at home and she made ma feel as I was welcomed I could talk to her and trust her with my home problems.

Why did you become involved in education?
In 2021 I started in a daycare because I wanted to work with kids.

Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
Bristol Community College

What did you like about your college?
I like that there’s a variety of different educational programs.

What is your favorite food?
Pizza

What is your favorite book?
The Hate you Give by Angie Thomas
