Cassidy Silva is a Teaching Assistant at Alma’s Frederick Douglass Campus.
What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
From the moment I walked in to Alma, I knew it would be the perfect start to my journey in an education career. Everyone was so welcoming and accepting.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to take my experience as a dance teacher and use it to form close relationships to those students who may need extra guidance throughout their school year or simply need a safe space to be their true selves.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
Sue was a para when I was in high school. When I was finally put on an IEP for my ADD, it made a world of a difference being able to sit with Sue every day and go over everything I’m working on, tests coming up or putting together my senior portfolio. If I needed some extra time to take a quiz/test, Sue made sure I got just that. If it weren’t for her, I don’t think I would have made it across the stage at the end of my senior year with my graduating class.
Why did you become involved in education?
I have worked as a dance teacher for children raging from age 2 all the way to 17. I have been a dance teacher now for 8 years and it has taught me so much. I know education will be a good fit for me and I can’t wait to see where this position takes me in the future at Alma.
