Meet Ms. Correia

July 15, 2022, by Becca Kurie

Brittany Correia is the First Grade Lead Teacher at Alma’s Frederick Douglass Campus.

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
Being a part of a community that works together to support not only the scholars but the staff and give them opportunities to grow and learn is important to me. I have felt supported since the very first day that I walked into Alma for my initial interview.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
My patience to understand and teach, my drive to learn and grow as a teacher, my creativity to make learning fun and exciting, my ability to develop trusting relationships with both scholars as well as their families providing a safe space for children to learn and grow, and more !

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
While I have a few teachers who are very important to me I have to say my high school history teacher Mr. Rosa made a significant difference in my life. He taught me to believe in myself even when I wasn’t confident in my abilities. He showed me that it was okay to make mistakes as long as I learned from them and that it was important to be true to yourself, always !

Why did you become involved in education?
I loved school. I still remember those teachers that I had growing up that were important to me. Those teachers that you just know have a passion for teaching and enjoy working with young children. Those teachers that want to make a difference. Thats what I want. Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher. Making a difference in a young child’s life and being a part of their education is an incredible feeling. I want to be that teacher that future children remember. I want to be that teacher that makes a difference.

Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
Bridgewater State University

What did you like about your college?
The amount of opportunities that I had to be hands on in a classroom or in the field learning.

What is your favorite food?
Pizza

What is your favorite book?
Harry Potter
