Meet Ms. Carreiro: Literacy Specialist

August 14, 2019, by Becca Kurie

IMG_5419Ms. Carreiro is an elementary school literacy specialist at the Frederick Douglass Campus.

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?

I’ve worked with urban youths for over 20 years. Charter public schools offer students options that they might not have access to in district public schools.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?

I hope to empower my students to contribute to active citizenship in causes that they are passionate about and give them the skills needed to achieve their goals.

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?

My professor in college because she demonstrated compassion to others and advocated against systems of inequities.

Where did you go to college? What did you like about your college?

I attended Brown University. I enjoyed was meeting students and professors who come from across the globe. The access to learning about other cultures was an unforgettable experience.

What is your favorite food?

Sushi

What is your favorite book?

I don’t have a favorite.
