Mrs. Medeiros is a middle school sub-separate classroom associate teacher at Alma’s Frederick Douglass Campus.
What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
The reason I decided to join the Crew of Alma was because I wanted a new environment to begin my teaching career. I am currently at the end of my teaching degree and appreciate the welcoming environment that Alma Del Mar represents. I think that this will be a great place to challenge and enhance my skills as a future teacher.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to be able to contribute to the success of students. Not just in academics but in social emotional skills and being able to give positive outlooks on every situation.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
The teacher that comes to mind that has made a difference in my life is my third grade teacher, Mr. P. He was an amazing teacher who saw the potential in every student and never gave up on them. He has had a big impact in my schooling career because I was never the A+ student and sometimes it was hard to see my worth. Every once in a while when I was struggling he would pop into my head when I doubted myself. Teachers make a big difference in our children lives.
Why did you become involved in education?
I chose to be involved in education because of my sister. Growing up my sister and I were inseparable even with our 6 year age difference. This was because she had a much younger mindset. She was born with a chromosome mutation called ring 14. She was special needs. She has always been my inspiration to make a difference in special needs individuals lives. I started off with special needs adults but knew I needed to go back to school to teach younger special needs children. My heart will always be in special needs education.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I began online schooling about 4 years ago at Grand Canyon University. My degree will be a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Special Education.
What did you like about your college?
The college process was very stressful for me because of having children while completing my degree. That is why it has taken me as long as it has. I did like that everything was online so I was able to make a schedule based off of my home needs and work around them.
