Meet Mr. Ratti

July 11, 2022, by Becca Kurie

Isaiah Ratti is a Sixth Grade Social Studies lead teacher at Alma’s Frederick Douglass Campus.

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I decided to join the Crew because I strongly believe Alma del Mar has had an extremely positive impact on the New Bedford community since its creation.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to create meaningful learning experiences for my students and help them reach their educational goals.

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
My fifth-grade history teacher, Mr. Sorensen, made learning extremely fun and exciting every day. He is one of the reasons why I wanted to become a teacher.

Why did you become involved in education?
I wanted to become involved in education because I want to inspire students who come from my own community to become college graduates and leaders.

Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I studied at Ohio Wesleyan University for two years before transferring to the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth where I received my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree.

What did you like about your college?
I liked that they offered a wide-variety of majors, and my classmates were often really talented in different areas.

What is your favorite food?
Miso Ramen

What is your favorite book?
The Martian by Andy Weir
