Miss Hogan is an Associate Teacher at Alma’s Sarah D. Ottiwell Campus
What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I decided to join the Crew at Alma due to the team mentality and the common goals Alma has for all of their scholars. I believe that every student should be seen as a scholar. I also believe that all students should be supported and pushed in the classroom which is also a core belief at Alma. The team atmosphere and support offered for scholars and staff is unlike anything I have been a part of before. I am very excited to see what this year brings at Alma.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to bring a positive attitude and positive energy to Alma. I have had the privilege of working alongside great teachers in the past and I hope to bring the lessons they have taught me to Alma as well. I also hope to bring energy and compassion into the classrooms at Alma. I believe students learn best when they feel supported and seen in the classroom. I strive to be that support system for all students while also ensuring that they feel valued and cared for.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
My sixth grade science teacher made an immense impact in my life. This teacher was a great educator and role model. Not only was she kind and caring but she always made it known that she was someone we could go to with anything. Knowing that I had someone this supportive and trustworthy was something that impacted me greatly. This is the kind of teacher I hope to be for all of my students in the future.
Why did you become involved in education?
I became involved in education through following the footsteps of my family. My grandfather was a guidance counselor and assistant principal and my dad teaches middle school. As I grew up it became clear that teaching was the profession for me. From a young age I would enjoy playing school and teaching others. Now I get to turn that passion into a career that allows me to help others on a day to day basis.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I attended Worcester State University where I received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Psychology.
What did you like about your college?
I really enjoyed the close knit, supportive community that Worcester State had to offer. The campus is very small so it allowed all of the members of the community to get to know each other. There were many opportunities available for growth and support which made my college experience an enjoyable one.
