Working at Alma
Alma del Mar seeks incredible educators who will do whatever it takes to give our scholars the education they deserve.
As a part of our team you will:
- be given the support and the resources you need to plan and teach effective lessons every day.
- be part of a team on which every staff member holds themselves and their scholars to the highest academic and behavioral standards.
- have the time to ensure that your scholars master the essentials and go deep into key content through learning expeditions.
- work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life — and love it.
Do you know an amazing educator? Let us know!
To deliver on the commitments we’ve made with our scholars and families we know our crew must be masters in our craft. In order to be our best selves – collectively and individually – we need to be diverse in talent, perspectives, and experiences. We also know that’s not enough. We must foster a culture that encourages us to leverage our strengths and differences in a way that ignites our creativity and excels our performance. To that end we are intentional about the talent we seek, how we engage our families and scholars, and the values we aim to lead by.
Our Crew Code is an articulation of the values we believe create the inclusive, thriving culture that students and adults alike experience at Alma. As a result, Alma cultivates the kind of high quality learning and exceptional results our scholars are capable of.

Our Commitment to Equity
Alma del Mar Charter School strives to be an anti-racist institution. We seek to dismantle racist and white supremacist structures in pursuit of justice and racial equity. We will fight against racism when we encounter it both within and outside of our school community. We will actively work to ensure that all of our community members, including scholars, families, and staff, feel included, celebrated and empowered. By resisting racism and white supremacy, we will lay the foundation to challenge all forms of oppression.
Welcome to New Bedford
When you are a teacher at Alma del Mar, you can live in a cottage on the beach, in a luxury loft in a renovated mill building, or in a high-rise in Providence—all for an affordable price.
Join other Alma teachers and grab coffee at the Green Bean before work, enjoy a plantain burrito at No Problemo, or walk to Sunshine Bakery down the street from the school to get a cup of Portuguese kale soup. When you work at Alma del Mar, you can spend your weekends at the beach or exploring the art galleries downtown. Take your dog for a walk at Fort Taber Park or one of the many nature trails in the area. Pick your own apples and peaches at the farms in neighboring Acushnet. Go for a run around the lake in Buttonwood Park. Meet your friends for a hand-crafted burger at dNB Burgers or for freshly-baked linguica and cheese rolls at The Baker. Whether you’re looking to catch a performance of a Broadway national tour at the Zeiterion, go kayaking in Buzzards Bay, or just enjoy some artisan pizza at Brick, New Bedford has something for everyone!
