Dear Alma Families,
Yesterday, Governor Baker and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released initial guidance on the reopening of school this fall. I know I speak on behalf of all Alma staff when I say that we are eager for the opportunity to return to in-person learning with the appropriate health and safety guidelines in place. Over the summer, Alma’s leadership will be reviewing the guidance to inform our school’s plan for re-opening. The full guidance can be found at MA DESE COVID-19 Information and Resources.
Health & Safety Guidelines
According to the guidance, all schools will be required to follow specific health guidelines including, but not limited to:
- Recommended face masks for scholars in grades K-1; Required face masks for scholars in grades 2-8 and for all school staff
- Scholars will maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance throughout the school day
- Frequent handwashing and cleaning of high-touch surfaces
Learning Model
As stated in the guidance, we are hoping to bring back as many scholars as possible for in-person learning. However, we are developing three separate plans simultaneously so that we can be prepared to return to school safely given the evolving status of the virus in the New Bedford community and in the state of Massachusetts. In addition to preparing to return with a fully in-person learning model, we are preparing for a fully remote model and a hybrid model where scholars would participate in a mix of in-person and remote learning.
During these unprecedented times, Alma del Mar will continue to prioritize the health and safety, as well as the academic progress, of our scholars. We will continue to update you throughout the summer, and welcome your questions. We have scheduled a Zoom call for Monday, June 29 at 5:30pm. Please join us to hear more about our plans for re-opening this fall! Thank you for your continued support.
