26 de Marzo – En Espanol

This post has been updated at 9 AM on Thursday, March 26 with an important announcement:

Alma del Mar and all other K-12 schools in Massachusetts will remain closed through the month of April and will not reopen until Monday, May 4th, per Governor Charlie Baker’s latest order.

For the first two weeks of closure, scholars had a work packet to complete (Week 1 was passed out at school on Friday, March 13, and Week 2 was mailed to your home). Scholars should hold on to these packets to turn in whenever we return to school! (Of course, you are welcome to send photos or scans of completed work to teachers for help or encouragement! They would love to see what scholars have done so far!)

Starting next week, all 3rd-8th grade scholars will be using Google Classroom to find daily assignments to complete and submit online. (If your family still needs a Chromebook, you may go to the lunch pick-up at the Ottiwell campus any day from 10am-11am. One per household.)

K-2nd grade scholars will continue to get recommended offline activities and online resources to try from their teachers. Stay tuned for some more resources posted here for our youngest scholars early next week!

This post has been updated at 7 PM on Sunday, March 15, with an important announcement:

Per Governor Charlie Baker’s order, Alma del Mar and all other schools in Massachusetts will be closed for the next three weeks. School is anticipated to resume on April 6th. Please review the below details regarding academic expectations, meal service, and how to get in touch with school administrators during this closure.

Academics: Please make sure your scholar(s) completes the academic work that was sent home with them on Friday, March 13. All K-2 scholars have a single packet that includes both math and ELA activities to complete. Additionally, all scholars should have their book baggies with independent reading books from their classroom library. Scholars should complete at least one page of work and do 30 minutes of reading each day.

Scholars in grades 3-8 received work for both math and ELA. For math, scholars should complete the fluency and review packet in its entirety. For ELA, scholars received a new curriculum book with five prompts. Scholars should read at least 15 pages per day and select one of the prompts to answer in a complete paragraph (turning in five paragraphs all together).

Your scholar’s teacher will be in touch this week to offer support, answer questions, and share additional ways for your scholar to continue learning during our schools’ closure. In addition, we have shared a number of free resources for families and scholars at www.almadelmar.org/coronavirus/

Meal Services: Beginning Monday, March 16th, from 10-11am each weekday Alma is closed, we will open up our campuses briefly for families to pick up scholar lunches and snacks. This will be a quick, grab-and-go, option to ensure scholars have meals during our schools’ closure.

If your family is in need of additional assistance during this time: Please text Families Helping Families Coordinator Marie Tavares at 508-203-7546. If you have any questions, please email info@almadelmar.org or call and leave a message at the front office of either campus: Ottiwell Campus: 774-206-6827; Frederick Douglass Campus: 774-762-4064

Thank you for your help to keep our community healthy and safe.

In Service,

Will Gardner, Executive Director
