What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
Alma is my home and I have always been welcomed with open arms so I took the opportunity to not only be apart of the community as a teacher but as well learn from many of them as I had years ago as a scholar.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to be a bright light for those who are afraid to shine their own. My goal is to have all of my scholars be brave enough to show who they are, prove how smart they are and show others how hard work will always pay off. I hope to inspire my scholars to never give up and never see failure as a setback, only as a stepping stone to their success.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
While every teacher I have crossed paths with has impacted my decision of going into the field of education, I would have to say that the teachers that inspired me and built up my love of math have to be Mr. Justin Edwards (5th grade Math) and Mrs. Kaitlin Goldrick (Middle School Math). Mr. Edwards always believed in me and would often joke to my parents about how his biggest issue with me is that I would finish my work way to fast and he would have nothing for me to do but help other scholars. Now teaching 5th grade math just feels like a huge honor. As for Mrs. Goldrick, she not only taught me multiple years in math, but also dedicated time to furthering our education as high achieving math students and teaching us double the math when we would take higher education courses at New Bedford High. This being said, I can't think of a single teacher that didn't not only believe in me but also push me to be more and shoot for high achievements and for that I thank every single one and am teaching in honor of them.
Why did you become involved in education?
It is very important to teach the younger generation about math, ELA, science, and social studies but it is also important to show them how to be upstanding leaders in a constantly changing world. Being a small part of that impact is very special to me and I hope to inspire my scholars just as my teachers have inspired me.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school and what did you like about it?
I'm currently attending Bristol Community College and I love my professors and how much they care about both my education and my life in general.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is lasagna.
What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is The Cellar by Natasha Preston.
