Alma's protection of all families

Dear Alma Families,

Since the new presidential administration has taken office, there have been many questions and anxiety around potential shifts to immigration policy. The safety and well-being of our scholars, staff and families are always our most important priority, and we are writing to assure you of our commitment to safeguarding our community and to provide links to resources that may be helpful.

First, Alma is committed to educating and partnering with all students and their families regardless of race, religion, disability, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or immigration status. We are firmly committed to this and will continue to honor this commitment and maintain a physically and emotionally safe learning environment for all of our scholars.

Below are some practical steps we take to protect all of our scholars and families:

  • Alma does not ask families for their immigration status, nor require proof of citizenship. If an individual does have information about someone’s immigration or asylum status, this may not be entered in any school records and must be kept confidential.
  • Alma will not permit Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials access to school facilities, scholars, or records without an appropriate judicial warrant, court order, or subpoena.
  • Our team is prepared. We have provided detailed guidance to school leaders and staff regarding scholars’ rights and protection and how to handle interactions with ICE if they occur.

We also want to share resources with families. This document contains links to local and national immigration resources. We will update this list as we learn more from local and state leaders.

We want to reiterate that the safety of our scholars is our number one priority. We value every member of our school community, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all scholars. As always, please reach out if you are in need of support.

We are closely monitoring the developments and collaborating with our fellow district and charter schools and will continue to share information as needed.

In Service,

Taylor DeLoach
