Meet Mr. Furtado!

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I really enjoyed the scholars that I got to meet and felt confident in the professional development systems of the network.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to contribute a positive and growth centered mentality to teaching history and engaging scholars in civic life.

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
Mr. Dionne, my 9th grade history teacher. He opened history to me through many different lesson plan styles. We played games, wrote papers, took exams, and held debates about multiple historical topics.

Why did you become involved in education?
I worked as a substitute teacher for a first grade class in a local elementary school during the pandemic.

Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I went to college and UMass Dartmouth, Bristol Community College, and Bridgewater State University.

What did you like about your college?
I liked how many cultural events that we were encouraged to go to. It opened my mind to many different cultures and ideas.`

What is your favorite food?
Portuguese steak plate with rice, fried egg, and crushed red peppers.
