Alma Families:
A few years ago the New Bedford Election Commission was looking for a new polling location and in the spirit of service, Alma stepped in and offered up our cafeteria space. As many of you know, since then Alma has been fortunate enough to serve as a polling location for wards 2B and 2C.
In past years, our scholars have had the opportunity to experience democracy in action. They observed the voting process, and even held mock elections where staff and scholars could cast their ballots. We’re excited to say that our scholars will continue to learn about the voting process and the positive impact it will have on the upcoming election.
School will be held as usual at both Alma campuses on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the date of the Presidential Primary Election Day. The Election Commission will supply polling staff, and the city will provide multiple police officers to monitor the polls. There will be zero overlap between voters and our scholars that isn't supervised by multiple police officers and several Alma staff members. Scholars will eat breakfast and lunch in their classrooms.
We are honored to be such an integral part of the election process and will continue to show our scholars through our actions how important it is to support the community they live in. Thank you all for your continued support and flexibility!
