What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I decided to join Alma because, Alma felt like family. During the interview process I could picture myself there. I felt welcomed, comfortable, and was able to be my genuine self.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to be a light at Alma. I hope to work hard everyday and to inspire every student I meet to continue their education. I hope to also be a great colleague and a safe place for the crew.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
A teacher that made a difference in my life was Iva Brito. Miss Brito was my ESL teacher when I moved to the US, in 2004 from Cape Verde. She believed in me, encouraged me, and really showed that she cared about my education and well being. She was and will always be the reason I chose to become an educator. When I graduated college in 2022, I thought of her as I crossed that stage to receive my diploma. I was reminded that because of someone else's "yes" and daily sacrifice, I got an opportunity to be the first in my family to graduate college.
Why did you become involved in education?
I became involved in education because, I have always had a passion for learning. Since I was a little girl education fascinated me. I loved school and learning came easy to me. My dad always encouraged me to do well in school, so the drive to make my dad proud also played a factor in that. I also love children. I have always loved teaching kids and would always play pretend teacher with my cousins when we were little. I love how curious children are. I believe that they teach me more than I teach them. I am living an actual dream and I am loving every minute of it.

What did you like about your college?
What I liked about college was the freedom to learn about anything and everything. I went to public school my whole life so I do remember feeling limited. In college I felt as though I had control of my education.
