What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I decided to join the crew at Alma because, as some of my former students would say, the 'vibe' was right. I appreciated the support all teachers are offered, especially the coaching. I always want to grow and improve and was looking for a school that would support me in that endeavor.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I look forward to contributing to Alma in multiple ways, but I am most excited to help scholars foster an artistic mindset! An artistic mindset is not just about being creative, it is about trial and error, and looking for unique solutions to problems. I am also looking forward to introducing scholars and their families to many ways of creating art, as well as showcasing scholar creativity (there hopefully may be a middle school art show in the future!)
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
My third grade teacher Ms. Reed. I was an extremely shy child, and she always made sure there was space held in the classroom for us shy students to practice social skills with other more outgoing students!
Why did you become involved in education?
I became an educator for so many reasons! However, the two most salient I can think of right now are as follows: I want to share and foster a love of Art with people of all ages, and a formal setting is the best way to share art with all. Reason two is: I had some amazing educators that I really looked up to throughout my schooling, and I wanted to be them when I grew up.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and took classes at Lesley University.
What did you like about your college?
I loved that in the Art Education Major we were able to work closely with the youth community of Mission Hill and all of Boston.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is Gluten-free Funfetti Cake.
What is your favorite book?
That is such a tough question! I can answer it in two parts: My favorite children's book is Miss Rumphius. My favorite grown-up book I am currently reading is 'Ni Una Mas' by Miguel Saez Carral. This book is slow reading though, as I am still learning to read/speak Spanish.
