Meet Ms. Donaldson!

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I am aligned to the school's mission and believe all children should have access to a path to college if that is what they choose. Additionally, I am excited to be part of a community where students are with us on their educational journey from kindergarten through 8th grade. Based on my visit in the spring, I can tell that Alma is a tight-knit community that I cannot wait to learn from!

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to learn from the amazing staff at Alma and pair that with my experiences and lessons learned to continue Alma's path of delivering an excellent educational experience for students and families.

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
Reflecting on my schooling, I would have to say that my 8th grade ELA teacher made a difference in my life. He challenged us to question the status quo and to think outside of the box. He was also a model of the type of teacher who shows deep care for students. He was invested in each student and always knew if there was a big game coming up or something important in our lives. I remember after winning a big basketball tournament he cut out the articles from the newspaper and hung them all over the classroom door. It made us feel really special.

Why did you become involved in education?
I joined TFA out of college and was placed in the NYC. I continue to be involved in education because of my passion for teaching and learning, as well as the impact it has on others. I find joy in sharing my passions and helping others understand new concepts. I love when former students come back and talk about the books they read in my class and how they are still interested in some of the topics we covered.

Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I went to Albright College where I earned a degree in political science. I went to Fordham University for my master's degree.

What did you like about your college?
I went to a small liberal arts college so I loved that you knew all the professors and the professors knew you. The classes were small so there was a ton of room for discourse and you were really able to hear the perspective of others. I particularly loved the professors in the political science department and working on my senior honor's thesis with them.
