Meet Ms. T!

What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I have worked for different types of companies and so far my favorite has been a Charter school. My interest in Alma is because I believe they always do what is best for the kids. Alma is close to my home address, and I can’t wait to join the team and help change the lives of the future.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to contribute some of my fun ways of teaching to Alma. I love using different ways to teach children with autism. I like to sing, dance, and play on the floor with the kiddos.

What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
I had a few different teachers make a difference in my life. One that comes to mind right away is my high school English teacher. English was a challenging subject for me and this teacher was able to reach me in ways I didn’t know existed. He helped me learn that I can write and make poetry. He showed me how listening to a child is so important when teaching.

Why did you become involved in education?
I decided to work with children with special needs because I have a younger brother who is on the spectrum. Throughout my childhood, I always knew he was a little different than me and he was taught things different than me. I saw how difficult it was for him to go through school, especially elementary level. My mother struggled with teachers in the public school and needed an advocate to help her. This drove me to work with children with special needs in a school system and fight for their equal rights.

Where did you go to college or post-secondary school?
I went to college at Bridgewater State University and I am currently completely my psychology degree through Southern New Hampshire University.

What did you like about your college?
I really enjoy Southern New Hampshire University and the online process of learning. It has helped me work towards my degree while staying in the field and working full time. I like how flexible SNHU is with classes and they have an amazing advisory team.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is definitely pizza. I like all types of pizza but recently gold fever chicken pizza has been my favorite.

What is your favorite book?
My favorite book would have to be “How to Overcome Anxiety”. I found this easy book to read that has helped me understand more about my anxiety.
