Copia traducida del Compromiso de Alma con la Seguridad Escolar
Dear Alma Families:
It has been just more than one week since the tragic loss of life in Uvalde, Texas. As we continue to process this senseless act of violence, we recognize that this situation has raised concerns about school safety preparation.
While we do not publicize specific details of our safety plans in order to protect the integrity of those plans, we assure you that the safety of our scholars, staff and school visitors is our highest priority.
Our buildings remain locked and supervised at all entrances when school is in session and for our after school programming. Security cameras provide coverage in and around our building and grounds. We have frequent communication with the New Bedford Fire and Police Departments, and we review and practice safety protocols and procedures through training with staff annually. We do not currently engage our scholars in active shooter drills.
We believe that the best prevention is proactive community building that promotes strong communication between everyone. We build a tight-knit school culture where scholars are seen, known and surrounded by trusting adults. Our scholars and staff should always feel safe in speaking up if a situation feels unsafe. In addition, our operations staff follow strict protocols regarding visitors to our buildings. We kindly ask that all visitors to our school buildings continue to follow the directions of front desk staff and be patient as information is confirmed prior to being allowed into the school.
Moving forward, we commit to additional meetings with school safety experts, including the New Bedford Police Department, to refine and strengthen our school safety practices. If you have any questions or concerns regarding school safety, please contact Matt Marko, Alma’s Network Director of Operations, at mattmarko@almadelmar.org or 508-203-1058.
