Alma Families,
As this year comes to a close, we wanted to share some information with you regarding the 2021-2022 school year at Alma!
Alma will continue to follow all Massachusetts guidance regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Per state guidance, remote learning will no longer be an option beginning in the fall. We can’t wait to have everyone back with us in the fall, and especially look forward to seeing those who were unable to join us in person this spring. As of now, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced that social distancing will not be in place next year. However, DESE has not said whether face masks will be required for scholars or staff.
Please see below for a draft calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. Over the summer we will be adding more details to the calendar, so please continue to check our website at almadelmar.org for updates. This calendar does not yet include staff professional development days (full or half days) or any special events, including family conferences. However, we wanted to share this information now so that you can plan for the first day of school on Thursday, August 26th, and are able to see the schedule for holidays and vacations.
As you are all aware, Alma has operated on reduced hours this school year due to the pandemic. Following input from our families and staff, and the approval of Alma’s Board of Trustees, Alma plans to operate on an 8:30 am-3:30 pm schedule for all of our campuses, Monday through Friday. This is a change both from this year, and from previous years. These new hours will be in place pending approval from the Commissioner of Education, which we hope to receive later this summer.
Due to these shorter hours and based on family feedback, Alma will offer a free after school program for scholars in grades K-8. We look forward to sharing more information about our afterschool program with you in the coming weeks!
Thank you for your patience and support during this very unique school year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding this information.
In service,
Will Gardner
