Download Spanish version of Family Letter: MA Travel Advisory Reminder
April 16, 2021
Dear Alma Families,
We hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and well! We were overjoyed to see our 3rd-5th grade families in person this past week, and are looking forward to seeing our 6th-8th graders at both campuses very soon! Prior to April Break (April 19-April 23), we wanted to share the current Massachusetts Travel Advisory.
We expect that all families choosing to travel out of state over the break will follow this Travel Advisory prior to returning to in-person learning to help ensure the safety of our community. Scholars will be considered absent from school if they are unable to attend school in-person as they either await a COVID-19 test or fulfill their 10-day quarantine.
According to the advisory, all visitors entering Massachusetts, including returning residents, are advised to quarantine for 10 days upon their arrival. Only travelers in the following categories are exempt from this advisory:
- Travelers who have received a negative COVID-19 result on a test administered not more than 72 hours prior to their arrival in Massachusetts. Travelers may also test out of the quarantine advisory after arrival in Massachusetts, as long as they quarantine until receiving a negative test result.
- Anyone who is returning to Massachusetts after being out of the State for fewer than 24 hours.
- If you received a positive COVID-19 test result between 10 and 90 days ago and have completed the appropriate isolation period, you do not need to quarantine upon arrival to Massachusetts. (Note: this exemption does not apply to individuals who received a positive COVID-19 test result more than 90 days ago)
For families seeking testing resources, you can learn more about the free, easily scheduled testing available at the Regional Express COVID-19 Testing Sites in Massachusetts. This service is hosted by Project Beacon, and provides PCR COVID-19 testing with results in as little as 12 hours.
In service,
Taylor McNamara
School Nurse Leader
What if my scholar is feeling healthy, do they still need to get tested?
Yes, per the MA Travel Advisory.
What should my scholar do while they are waiting for their negative test result?
Unfortunately, in-person learning scholars will not be able to switch to remote learning while they are waiting for COVID test results so they will be absent from school until they are cleared.
What if my scholar is in the remote learning section?
Your scholar should still follow the MA Travel Advisory, but since your scholar is not learning in-person they can continue their regular virtual learning schedule on Monday 4/26.
What if my scholar tests positive over the break?
You should please let the school know ASAP and continue to keep your scholar home from school on Monday 4/26. If your scholar is positive for COVID-19 and will be quarantining at home for a length of time, we will then make a plan with your scholar to access their learning during this time.
