Who we serve

Alma is a public school, open to all children in New Bedford. We remain committed to ensuring that families from across the city are aware of the educational opportunities that Alma del Mar provides. Our Recruitment Team works to get our enrollment application into the hands of all families each year, including newer efforts such as:

1. Spanish billboard strategically placed on Acushnet Ave.
2. Bilingual postcards and letters mailed to over 2,500 families enrolled in pre-K, kindergarten and fifth grade at NBPS
3. Bilingual yard signs promoting Alma’s free K-8 program distributed across the city

There are no admissions tests or fees, and we only require basic information (such as date of birth and mailing address) on our free, multilingual application. Scholars come from all parts of the city to attend our schools. They represent the city’s racial and socioeconomic diversity.

We have a robust team of specialists to ensure every scholar is fully supported. Our team includes several reading and math specialists, an ESL specialist and social emotional specialist. Our specialists work directly with classroom teachers to make sure every scholar’s needs are met.

We do whatever it takes for our scholars. We provide dental care, eyeglasses and hearing aids for scholars who need them. We also offer onsite counseling for scholars with mental health needs and partner with Meeting Street to provide scholars with free, onsite Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy.
