Ms. Marinna Emond is a second grade lead teacher at Alma del Mar: Sarah D. Ottiwell Campus.
I hadn’t planned on being the lead second grade teacher this year, but I now know how special it is that my first group of kindergartners are now my second graders. After a challenging start to the school year, I’m grateful for this chance to step back and reflect on what we have achieved.
This year’s second graders are the first grade to have never experienced a normal school year, but it’s my goal to make it a year they’ll always remember. I tell them everyday, “It’s my job to teach you everything you need to know, and then some!” And that is exactly what is happening within the walls of our classroom at Alma del Mar, teaching them everything from how to be in school, to how to subtract two 3 digit numbers, and everything in between.
It’s the everything in between that is especially important nowadays, the community we’ve built within these walls is truly special. In this time of year when we’re reflecting on what we’re thankful for, the first thing that came to mind was my 26 scholars. Whether it’s their welcoming hugs every morning, or their ambitious goals they bring daily, every one of them has something special about them that I am truly thankful for, and that makes our classroom a family.
