Ms. Foody graduated from Smith College this past year with majors in Education and Child Studies and History. While at Smith, she played on the soccer team where she was able to take on the role of captain in her senior year. Before Smith, Ms. Foody spent a lot of time moving to new places. She was born in Hong Kong, then moved to Ohio, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, along with spending her sophomore year of high school studying abroad in France. Ms. Foody is glad now to be in New Bedford at Alma Del Mar!

Why did you choose the Alma team?

I chose the Alma team because it is like no school that I had interviewed with prior. On my visit here, I could already tell how welcoming and close the whole team was, and how devoted they all were to the mission of the school, getting these children on the path to college.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?

I hope to bring fresh ideas to the school. Just coming out off college, I have recently been presented with new research on teaching which I hope to implement in the classroom.

What is your top goal during your first year with Alma?

My top goal is to improve myself as a teacher, while working with the scholars to improve themselves as learners and people as well. We are all growing together!

What teacher made a difference in your life – how?

My first grade teacher is one of the main reasons for wanting to be a teacher. Even at such a young age, I was able to recognize how much she loved her job and how willing she was to do whatever it took to help the students in her class get better every day. She was able to turn any lesson into a real life applicable situation which made learning exciting.

Why did you become involved in education?

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I find great joy and satisfaction in helping others, as well as teaching others new things. As a learner, I have always enjoyed learning and am now excited to share this joy with my scholars.

Where did you go to college? What did you like about your college?

I attended Smith college. One thing I loved about Smith was the amount of opportunities I had to become the best I could be as a learner, an educator, an athlete, and a person.

What is your favorite place?

My favorite place is the beach, so I am lucky now to live near a beach every day!

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is either sushi or Thai food.
