Mr. Almeida was born and raised in New Bedford. He has his bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems and Human Resources Management from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Prior to taking on his first year at Alma, he was a full time Operations Analyst for five years and has been a part time academic tutor for four years. Tutoring helped him realize that he wanted to take on a full time position in education. While he still tutors part time, he’s excited to be a part of Alma where he can grow into a well-rounded educator. In his spare time, Mr. Almeida enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling/cruising, and going to concerts. For the past four years, he has helped coach his nephew’s baseball team. His favorite sports teams are the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.

Why did you choose the Alma team?
I chose Alma because I really liked the scope of the work that occurs, while not losing focus of the community in the process. After all, we are preparing the scholars to become better members of our community while instilling the habits of responsibility, consideration, and service.

What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
Within Alma, there is a lot that I am looking to contribute. Not only do I want to pass on my knowledge in the academic aspect, but I hope to have a positive influence on the scholars, teaching them valuable lessons that go beyond the classroom. I want to serve as a role model who provides appropriate advice and feedback to the scholars when it comes to significant decisions that could have a lasting impact.

What is your top goal during your first year with Alma?
My top goal for my first year at Alma is to challenge the scholars to their utmost potential, while providing as much support as possible along the way. I want them to understand that I am ultimately in this role for them.

What teacher made a difference in your life — how?
I’ve had some great teachers over the course of my education, but the teacher that always seems to stand out is Mr. Ronald Quintin. He was one of my technology teachers at GNB Voc-Tech who made learning fun, while relating the content and material to the real world. He was always there with a listening ear and taught me some valuable life lessons.

Why did you become involved in education?
I’ve always been passionate about helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I am fortunate enough to have been given some great opportunities throughout my life thus far. Having said that, it’s important to give back, and what better way to give back than in education? Also, it’s very rewarding to see students succeed.

Where did you go to college? What did you like about your college?
I attended the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. During my experience there, I really felt like I was able to take charge of my education despite not having a clear career path at the time.

What is your favorite food?
Anything buffalo chicken. Whether it’s tenders, wings, pizza, or quesadillas, anything with buffalo chicken is my favorite.

What is your favorite place?
On a cruise ship! Cruises allow you to relax and explore multiple places. Since I started cruising, I’ve been to Cozumel, Costa Maya, Haiti, Jamaica, Honduras, the Cayman Islands, and Nassau, Bahamas.
